Quad rings / X-rings
A four-lobed sealing profile. Check the gland, movement and compound when evaluating an alternative to an O-ring.
Four lobes. A dedicated profile.
Quad rings, also called X-rings, need a suitable gland and compound. Evaluate friction, lubrication, pressure and movement rather than treating the profile as a universal O-ring replacement.
Build the specification
- Profile drawing and all relevant dimensions, with tolerances
- Compound, hardness and media compatibility
- Temperature, pressure, movement and surface conditions
- Quantity, documentation and inspection requirements
Confirm interchangeability with an engineering review. Matching an outside diameter is not sufficient to approve a different sealing profile.
